May in Review

Wow! Can you believe how quickly 2013 is flying by? It is already the end of May! Today I thought it would be nice to review all that has been happening here this past month.

First, Silvia held several sales and released several new kits. We started the month with a bang by celebrating iNSD with a huge sale! I hope you added a lot of new goodies to your stash!

The next big sale was Gotta Grab It at Gotta Pixel, when Silvia released Bright and Sassy!

Then came the Create A Kit Event at Scrapbook-Bytes, when Silvia released Floratta.

And then, just because she can, Silvia released two more beautiful kits.

and just yesterday, Blush

In addition to all the new goodies released this month, Silvia also held chats at Gotta Pixel and Scrapbook-Bytes. If you missed these, you missed out on a lot of fun and games.

Silvia also is hosting the May/June Around the World challenge at Scrapbook-Bytes. If you haven't had time to participate yet, jump on over. This challenge runs for two months so there is plenty of time. I also hosted my Blast From the Past challenge at Gotta Pixel, and I'd love to have you participate in that one, too!

I also explored Silvia's galleries and showed you some of my favorites layouts. And I also showed you how I make a siggie. If you missed any of this, just click on the links to see what you missed. And don't despair. It's almost June which means more chats, more sales...more FUN! Keep watching here to stay informed!

It's Summer! (I think!)

It's summer! Well, at least it is supposed to be. The kids are out of school here, and swim practice started this week. The first day was a washout though, with thunderstorms hitting 15 minutes after they jumped in the water! And it continued to storm all day on and off, with lots of rain and gloomy skies. So that is probably why my eye was drawn to this bright, sunshiny layout!

I love the bright yellow and the butterfly and sunshine! The bow on the frame is a nice touch, too! This layout was created using Silvia's Summer's Eve Kit, available at any of her stores.

Oh YUMMM! I was just browsing Silvia's gallery and guess what I found? A simple recipe that sounds delish!

Chicken Crescent Rolls by auntrachel

This looks so easy to make and so good on a cool, rainy day like we are having right now! I like the woven ribbon border. It looks so cozy. I also like how the recipe is placed on pages of the book!

The recipe page was created using Silvia's The Gourmet Kit. It is perfect for scrapping your favorite recipe! If you use it to scrap a recipe, why don't you leave a link to your layout in the comments below! I always appreciate a 'friend-tested' recipe to add to my collection!

You can pick up The Gourmet Kit at any of Silvia's stores!

J is for Joy!

I was browsing the galleries looking for some inspiration and came across this beautiful layout by Bright Eyes.

Bright Eyes created this layout for the May ABC Challenge at Scrapbook-bytes using Silvia's Luxuriant Foliage kit. The photos are adorable and I like the frames. I always appreciate a touch of glitter and this layout has that. But what I REALLY love are the swirly cut strips she used at the bottom of the page! BEAUTIFUL!

You can pick up Luxuriant Foliage at any of Silvia's stores.

Soooooo.....How did you make that siggie?

How did you make that siggie? That seems to be a question I get asked frequently, so I thought I'd share a bit of info here.

First, you need to know the requirements of the site where you plan to use the siggie. Different sites have different dimension and file size requirements. Since I want to use this at Gotta Pixel, I started by checking the requirements there. I learned my siggie needs to be no larger than 400 x 150 pixels.

Now I have two ways I can approach this. Some people would prefer to start with a canvas of these dimensions; 400 x 150 pixels. I actually prefer to work with a full size image, so I start with a canvas that is 3600 x 1350 pixels and 300 dpi. This way I don't have to constantly resize my elements as I drag them onto the canvas. Be sure your background is transparent!

Now is the easy part; just create your siggie the same way you create any layout! When you are through, merge your VISIBLE layers. Do NOT 'flatten' the image or merge ALL layers, or you will not have a transparent background. After you have merged your layers, resize the image to 400 x 150 pixels if you started with a full resolution image. If you are in photoshop elements, you can use 'save for web' to save your siggie as a PNG file. If you are in other software, just save as a PNG with a resolution of 72 dpi.

Now upload the PNG file to an image hosting site; maybe Photobucket? Grab the code and add the siggie to your forum signature. For most digiscrap sites, this can be done through the user settings. It's really pretty simple! Hope you found this info useful. If you create a new siggie, leave a comment and link it up!

siggie made is Silvia's Lovingly Yours page kit

Describing Mom - Around the World Challenge

I just found this layout by norah in Silvia's Around the World challenge gallery at Scrapbook-Bytes. This month participants are asked to describe their mothers. The challenge runs through June, so you still have plenty of time to do a layout about YOUR mom!

I love that the journaling here is so detailed! I also like the blended photo of her mother. And the simple embellishment is perfect!

The pretty heart shaped frame and delicate butterfly are from Silvia's Twilight kit. You can pick it up at any of her stores.

OMGosh! I was just browsing Silvia's gallery and came upon the cutest little thing! Let me show you!

Blast From the Past Challenge

Last week I told you about the Around the World challenge that Silvia hosts at Scrapbook-Bytes. Today I want to tell you about the challenge I host at Gotta Pixel; the Blast From the Past challenge. This is a challenge where each month I ask you to scrap about (surprise!) your past! For May, I am asking you to scrap, not about your mother, but about a female in your life who was in some way a mother or mentor to you. Please go to the challenge to learn more.

Silvia's kit are so pretty and perfect for this heritage-themed challenge. In checking the gallery, I came across a beautiful layout done for my challenge, Cherished Moments by basketladyaudrey. I love the lacy frame and the pretty flowers. The glitter adds a touch of elegance for this formal portrait!

This layout was created using using Silvia's Soliloquy Add On, which was offered as a companion to her Soliloquy kit through the Gotta Pixel Daily Download. You can pick up Sililoquy at and of Silvia's stores!

Graduation Season!

It's graduation season around here! My alma mater graduated a class last weekend, and next weekend the high schools around here will be holding graduation ceremonies. It is a special time involving cameras and lots of picture-taking! Sadly, I still have graduation photos that need to be scrapped from 2 years ago! So I went searching the galleries for some inspiration. Want to see what I found??

I love this one! The colors are so soft and pretty, and I like bricks and torn edges on the paper. I also really like how she included the Kindergarden graduation photo. I have some preschool graduation photos waiting to be scanned, and I really like this idea, so.....I may just have to lift this one!

This layout was created with Silvia's 'Embraceable You' page kit.

You can pick Embraceable You up at any of Silvia's stores.
